Tobermore boss Adrian Whiteside was pleased to see a number of his regulars return after injury and suspension for this difficult cup tie against fellow Championship 2 side Portstewart. And he will be particularly delighted with the performance of some of the new names on the team sheet especially Stewart Glasgow, who has returned to United after a spell with Coleraine.
The young Cookstown lad was involved in most things in a packed midfield and crowned his debut with a cracking goal from outside the box to put his side ahead midway through the second half.
It was a fairly even affair in the first half with both keepers dealing comfortably with anything asked of them but Tobermore looked the more dangerous after the break and it was no more than they deserved when Glasgow put them ahead on 68 minutes.
Portstewart always looked a threat on the break but could find no way through a resolute Tobermore defense and when Trevor Parkhill raced onto a James McGahan flicked header to score the visitors second in the 80th minute there was no way back for the hosts.
Result; Portstewart 0 - 2 Tobermore United
Both teams lock horns again next Saturday Sept 6th this time in the league when Portstewart will again be the hosts.
